GeneralQ: Why Would I want to buy a Chinese Bike?
Because, if this is not your first bike, chances are you have bought one already and didn’t even know! China us the leading global supplier of motorcycles, producing over half of the world's stock, and this trend is set to continue.
The Chinese motorcycle industry started in a similar vein to the Japanese industry. Despite early criticism and doubt in eastern production values, manes such as Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki emerged and became the household brands that represent motorcycling today. Now, with modern technology, China look to better this remarkable evolution in motorcycle production- not only in quality, but also in value. Brands such as Lifan, Jinlun, Baotian and Yiben look set to give these Japanese giants serious competition.
Chinese manufacturers have been working closely with world-leading companies, producing their stock to strict quality standards. They have benefitted from their designs and input, and now with successful manufacturers having proven themselves worthy of producing models for brand-name companies, many suppliers are now attempting to change China's reputation from a source of inexpensive reproductions to a source of quality models with original designs- a task that certainly appears to be succeeding; our exclusive Pulse Adrenaline125 scored 4 stars in MCN and received much adulation in TAG magazine, to name but one model!
Quality may be soaring, but the prices have remained the same, and it is a very exciting time to be involved within the industry. There has never been a better time or opportunity to buy a Chinese scooter or motorcycle, and you never know: with our fantastic range, you may have a 21st century classic on your hands.
DeliveryQ: I've got my bike, but it's damaged. What do I do?
Firstly, don't panic, we will be able to sort this out! If the delivery company has not yet departed, please make sure you mark the delivery note clearly "damaged". Secondly, if you have a camera, take photographs now, showing all the damage, even if it seems minor. Thirdly, contact us on 0871 789 2169, quoting your customer number and let our customer service team resolve the problems.
Q: How long will it be for my road legal bike to get to me?
There is never a guaranteed time scale for delivery; we can only ever base it on past experience. The standard time scale for each stage of the process (including delivery) is this: Assembly and completion of registration forms 2 working days; Registration of vehicle 5 working days; Creation of number plate and the preparation for dispatch 1 working day; Delivery 5 working days; TOTAL = 13 working days. However this can be delayed in a number of different ways beyond our control.
Q: Hi, can the Courier be contacted to arrange a delivery time/date?
We use a selection of couriers, dependant on the size and weight of the item. If you need to get in touch with them for any reason, we can provide you with contact numbers for you to contact them to get specific information about delivery times.
Q: Can you give me any indication of a delivery date?
We will do our best to advise you of an approximate delivery date, and the courier will call you (when they get your order), to confirm more precisely, the date and time they can deliver. If you need any contact details regarding the couriers we use, please call us on 0871 789 2169.
MaintenanceQ: Do I have to replace the shipping oil in my new bike?
Yes, you should drain the shipping oil from the engine and replace it with semi synthetic 4-stroke motorcycle oil (4-stroke engines only). This should be done before the vehicle reaches 300 km.
Q: What can I do if I think I have immobilised my bike and the remote doesn't reset the immobiliser?
Disconnect the battery for at least 24hrs and reconnect it, fully charged.
Q: What should I check if I think there is an electrical problem with my bike?
Check the fuse(s), they are usually located near the battery and can often be replaced quite simply.
Q: I am having problems starting my 2-stroke, what can I check?
You can check the fuel is getting through and check that you have a good spark from the spark plug.
Q: My new scooter won't start, what should I do?
Remember, you must ensure the side-stand is up, and you have a brake applied before you try to start the vehicle. Is the battery charged? Does the bike start using the kick-start? Do the electrics work (horn, indicators)? If you are still having trouble, please call us, quoting your customer no. on 0871 789 2169 for advanced technical help.
Q: Can you de-restrict this bike? Or can you tell me how to do it?
We do not recommend attempting to 'de-restict' this or any of our vehicles, for several reasons. You may cause the bike to become unsafe. Should you make a change to the stated BHP, or performance of the vehicle you would need to have the vehicle put through an SVA test. Changes of this kind will very likely invalidate your insurance and furthermore, you will probably need a full motorcycle license to ride the vehicle. These changes would also invalidate your warranty with us.
RegistrationQ: What do I get in my registration pack?
When we register a bike for you, you will receive (with the bike) an envelope containing your tax disc (12 months). A V5 log book will be sent to you from the DVLA in approximately 4 weeks. You will also get some useful information regarding the maintenance of your vehicle, which you will need to keep for the future, when you have the vehicle serviced.
Q: Are all your road legal vehicles fully EEC approved and tested?
All our road legal vehicles are EEC approved. We fully check and road-test all road legal vehicle orders before we let them go.
Q: What is PDI?
PDI stands for pre-delivery inspection. We perform this rigourous set of checks and tests on all our road legal vehicle orders to the public.
Q: I've just bought a road legal scooter, do I need to send any information to you?
No, all information needed for the initial registration of the vehicle is already retained by us and the DVLA. All you need to do is arrange the insurance and purchase a helmet. We will contact you if any further details are required.
Q: As you don't require details from me, does that mean I'm the second registered owner?
Just as many vehicle dealers do, we initially register the vehicle to ourselves, in order to streamline the assembly and delivery process. You would be the second registered keeper of the vehicle, but you would still be able to say that you have owned it from new.
Q: If i were to buy this, would you register it for 1st September/1st March for the new reg?
If you would like to be sure of getting the new registration plate we can hold the order until after the beginning of September/March, so that you will get a "new" plate. Obviously this will mean a delay in getting your vehicle.
Q: Can I ride a 50cc scooter with a full car license?
If you passed your test before 2001 and have a full car license you can ride up to a 50cc scooter with 'L' plates, unless you are otherwise prohibited. If you passed your test after this date you would need to apply to the DVLA for a provisional bike license and complete a CBT. To ride anything up to a 125cc bike you need at least to have a valid CBT certificate (these only last for 2 years). Many of our dealers also offer this service, so please check out the "Find a Dealer" section of our website. Please be aware that this is a guide only and is subject to legal change, so please refer to your driving licenses and the regulating authority the DVLA if unsure.
Q: What are the licence requirements?
The DVLA requires all road legal bikes to be registered, taxed and insured. For the registration process there are a number of license requirements:
Under 125cc motorcycles and scooters
From 16 years old you may ride up to a 50cc moped with a Provisional Driving Licence and Compulsory Basic Training certificate (DL196 or a 'CBT').
Persons over the age of 17 can ride up to a 125cc motorcycle or scooter with a Provisional Driving Licence and a Compulsory Basic Training certificate.
Riders with a full UK car drivers license can ride a bike of up to 50cc without L-Plates and carry a passenger. If you wish to ride a bike up to 125cc you will require a CBT. For bikes above 125cc you will require a full bike license.
Riders can also apply for a Sub-category 'A-1' licence (light motorcycles) to ride any motorcycle or scooter up to 125cc, with power output not exceeding 14.6bhp. With this, you will not need to retake a CBT upon expiry.
Over 125cc Motorcycles- Full UK Motor Bike License (Sub Category 'A-2')
Riders can ride any bike, without L-plates and with pillion, for the first 2 years, however the vehicle must be restricted to a power output not exceeding 33bhp. After 2 years you can ride any size engine, without a re-test.
If you are over 21 years old, you can take a direct access test which if passed allows you to ride any engine sized motorcycle immediately without restriction.
Please be aware that this is a guide only and is subject to legal change, so please refer to your driving licenses and the regulating authority the DVLA if unsure.
